Welcome

Dear members of the German Cancer Society, dear colleagues,

on behalf of the program committee it is our great pleasure to announce the forthcoming 19th International AEK Cancer Congress that will be held in Heidelberg, 1-3 March 2017.

AEK is the Division of Experimental Cancer Research (Abteilung Experimentelle Krebsforschung) of the German Cancer Society. The biennial International AEK Cancer Congress is the central meeting for cancer researchers from Germany and neighbouring countries at all stages of their careers who come together to discuss the latest developments in basic and translational research.

The AEK Cancer Congress 2017 is a joint event of AEK and the DFG Research Unit 2314 "Targeting therapeutic windows in essential cellular processes for tumor therapy". The meeting will build on the success of the previous congresses with the participation of renowned international and national Keynote and Plenary speakers stimulating scientific exchange on a very high level. We are grateful for the financial support provided by the German Cancer Society (Deutsche Krebsgesellschaft), the German Cancer Aid (Deutsche Krebshilfe) and the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), which enables us to assemble such a top-ranking scientific program.

In the tradition of our congress format, the Plenary Symposia will provide ample time for vivid discussions. Each Symposium will give space for oral presentations which will be selected from the submitted abstracts. Two poster sessions positioned at the heart of our congress program offer the chance for young scientists and students to present and discuss their work to the cancer science community. Notably, the best posters will be awarded by poster prizes. Also, on the occasion of the AEK Cancer Congress our best colleagues will receive the prestigious German Cancer Awards 2017 for experimental, translational and clinical cancer research, respectively.

We are delighted that the Congress will be held again in Heidelberg, one of Europe's most famous historical sites. We are very much looking forward to welcome you at the 19th AEK Cancer Congress in 2017!

Kind regards,
